NUOL is the first comprehensive full-fledged university in the history of Lao PDR. Founded in November, 5th 1996, NUOL was established by amalgamation of the existing HEIs which were then operating under different ministries. With 24.668 students enrolled, of which 487 internationals, NUOL is the biggest University in Laos counting 13 faculties and 8 campuses. NUOL disseminates research findings and provides academic services to society while taking missions assigned and directed by the MOES and Government. Scientific research is a major activity of NUOL and it focuses on both social and natural sciences with the emphasis on the applied sciences.
