UHS Prepares to Host Training of Trainers 2 and Management Meeting 3 for the RESET Project in Vientiane
Consortium partners met online on 29 September 2026 to plan the next milestone in strengthening research management and researcher careers in Lao PDR
Vientiane, Lao PDR, 29 September 2026. The RESET team at the University of Health Sciences (UHS) held an online preparation meeting for the second Training of Trainers (ToT2) and the third Management Meeting (MM3) of the project. UHS will host both events in Vientiane from 17 to 20 November 2026.
Planning the next milestone together
The meeting brought together UHS colleagues involved in the project to plan the programme, practical arrangements and coordination for the November events. Good preparation matters because ToT2 and MM3 will bring together representatives from all RESET partners: Champasack University, the National University of Laos, Souphanouvong University, Savannakhet University, the University of Health Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Sports of Lao PDR. They will be joined by the European partners, the University of Alicante, the University of Freiburg and CESIE.
Why ToT2 and MM3 matter
The Training of Trainers is a central part of RESET's approach. It prepares staff from Lao universities to pass on skills in research management and researcher career development within their own institutions, so the benefits last beyond the project. The Management Meeting gives the consortium a chance to review progress, align the next steps and keep the work on track.
These events follow an active period for the project. In July 2026, partners completed study visits to the University of Alicante and the University of Freiburg, where they learned how European universities support researchers, manage projects and transfer knowledge to society. Partners have also gathered evidence on the opportunities and challenges of research development in Lao universities through a survey and focus group discussions held at each institution. This work provides a practical basis for the next stage of the project.
Building research capacity for green growth
RESET, short for Redefining Research Management Structures and Research Career Development to Accelerate Green Growth in Lao PDR, aims to strengthen how Lao universities manage research and to create clearer career pathways for researchers. By working together with European partners, the project supports Lao PDR's green growth agenda and helps build a more innovative and sustainable higher education system.
